Forest of the Unconscious

November 12, 2014 Marisa Montemorano

November 2014  Grounds for Sculpture  Hamilton, NJ

Film Photography. In-camera manipulations. (No post editing.)

I have had the fortunate pleasure of visiting Grounds for Sculpture a bunch of times (at least 50!) for the past 12 years. From getting married there a year & a half ago to field trips galore with colleagues and art students…it’s a sacred place for shared discovery. On class trips we watch an orientation video before roaming free. My favorite piece of wisdom given to the students is, ‘every time you visit the park it will be different because the park changes with the seasons, light of day, shifting landscapes, but mostly because you will be different.’ The park in its nature, doesn’t allow you to linger much in the past. I love the immediate rush I get when witnessing others experience it for the first time. A couple of weeks ago, I visited Grounds for the first time alone with my camera. This is how I saw it that day. The next time it will look different.
